Liz is the youngest of 9 children. Originally from the state of Oaxaca, Liz's family migrated to California when she was 5 years old. She attended all of her schooling in Sonoma County and graduated with an Associate's Degree from Santa Rosa Junior College. While at the JC, she participated in the Puente Project were she was fortunate to meet her counselor, Luz Navarrette, who helped her understand the college culture and transfer process. Being in Puente was one of the best choices she made while in college because she made lots of lifelong friends and it made her feel prepared to transfer and finish her degree. Liz received her BA degree in Mexican-American Studies and Master's in Counseling from Sonoma State University. Looking back, she realized how valuable student support programs have been to her success and is grateful to be a part of the Puente Program where she can give back to her community and help students along their educational journey.
